Thinning removes a proportion of trees so the strongest have room, light and water. Regeneration then covers restocking: natural seed fall where the ground allows it, planting where it does not, and protection until the new trees are past the browsing stage.

Yes. A few acres of mixed broadleaf is as welcome as a compartment of conifer. The plan and the machinery are scaled to the site, and a small wood often needs only a day or two of work.

Sometimes, for safety while trees are being felled or extracted. We agree any closures with you and the relevant authority in advance, and keep them as short as the work allows. Clear signage goes up at every entry point.

It depends on the site and your objectives. Saleable timber can be marketed on your behalf, low-grade material chipped or used for firewood, and brash either stacked in habitat piles or left where it does least harm to the ground flora.

We can prepare the felling licence application and the woodland management plan that sits behind it, and we will tell you which grants are worth pursuing. Approval timescales rest with the Forestry Commission, not with us.

That is often the sensible first step. A walkover with you, followed by written recommendations and a costed outline, gives you something to consider at your own pace. There is no obligation to proceed further.
